TLILIC0005 Licence to operate boom type Elevated Work Platform (boom length 11m or more)
The purpose of our ‘boom-type elevated work platform’ course is to give students the knowledge and practical experience to safely operate an elevated work platform (EWP) with a boom length of 11 metres or more.
At Gallmac, we have developed a detailed training plan for students in a small class environment, providing sufficient one-on-one training to allow for a more personalised learning experience.
A boom-type elevated work platform is a mechanical device that can be telescopic, hinged or articulated. It is used to support a platform where workers, materials and equipment need temporary access to areas that are out of reach.
The course material will teach you how to plan and prepare a job for elevated work platform operations, conduct routine operational checks, set up and manoeuvre an EWP in various work environments, choose appropriate safety equipment for the task in hand, carry out maintenance on an EWP and associated equipment and finally shut down and secure an EWP according to site procedures.
All aspects of this course will be taught by our highly knowledgeable trainers through written and practical teachings at our on-site training facility in Brisbane, within easy access to the airport. The course content will include, but is not limited to the following;
- Health and safety legislation and site documentation relevant to EWP operations
- Hazard identification, risk assessment and control implementation
- Routine before and after operational checks
- Logbook requirements
- Operating and manoeuvring techniques of an EWP
- Maintenance and isolation procedures of EWP and safety equipment
- Safety equipment and personal protective equipment
- Safe working load calculations
- Written, verbal and visual communication in the workplace
On successful completion of this training, students will have the ability to demonstrate the following;
- Identify, monitor and record potential hazards such as ground conditions, traffic and overhead power lines
- Implement the necessary control measures using the hierarchy of controls
- Carry out routine operational checks of both the EWP and associate safety equipment
- Inspect and fit the appropriate safety equipment including anchor points, safety harnesses and energy absorbers
- Set up and operate an EWP and apply the relevant movements such as lowering and raising the boom and manoeuvring back and forward.
- Assess ground stability prior to EWP activities such as damaged concrete, potholes and trench covers
- Conduct maintenance on all plant and equipment and isolate if faulty according to site procedures
- Record all operational checks and faults in the logbook provided in the EWP
- Understand the capabilities and limitations of an EWP and its associated equipment
- Communicate effectively with co-workers and all other personnel in the workplace and ensure appropriate methods of communication such as hand signals, signage and two-way radios are in place
- Comply with relevant health and safety legislation and all other obligatory regulations associated with elevated work platform operations
