Work Safely At Heights

Our ‘Working at Heights’ course is designed to give students the required skills and knowledge to work safely at heights utilising the appropriate safety equipment in compliance with relevant Australian health and safety legislation.

It is extremely important for employers to take extra precaution when employees are working at heights where there is a risk of falling and causing injury or death. This is liable to occur if employees are working above ground level where you could potentially fall from one level to another or through an opening in the floor. The appropriate health and safety training are essential in all work environments where there is the risk of falling from performing tasks at height.

This training will teach you how to plan a job and inspect a site prior to conducting work at heights, choose and install the necessary safety equipment and personal protective equipment, ensure access area to designated work location is safe,  perform various tasks at height and adjust safety equipment accordingly, carry out maintenance on all tools and equipment and finally maintain a clear hazard free work area.

All of this will be taught at our onsite training facility in Brisbane through theoretical and hands-on practical teachings and will include, but is not limited to the following;

  • Health and safety legislation, codes of practice and site policies and procedures
  • Hazard identification and risk assessment
  • Implementation of necessary control measures
  • Completing work at heights
  • Characteristics, capabilities and limitations of safety equipment
  • Installation of safety equipment
  • Maintenance and isolation procedures
  • Housekeeping duties
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Communication in the workplace
  • Documentation relevant to working at heights

The successful applicant will have the knowledge to demonstrate the following;

  • Identify and report potential hazards such as the condition of structures, working with tools at height and weather conditions.
  • Apply the necessary control measures using the hierarchy of controls to prevent hazards from occurring
  • Implement safer procedures for moving tools and equipment to designated at height work areas and ensure safe use of tools while carrying out tasks at height
  • Complete work activities safely when at heights and in compliance with all obligatory legislation and site procedures
  • Recognise the functions and capabilities of all relevant fall protection and safety equipment
  • Install various types of safety equipment and choose the appropriate personal protective equipment for the job being carried out
  • Conduct maintenance on all safety equipment and isolate faulty equipment according to site procedures
  • Communicate effectively with all workplace personnel and ensure proper communication equipment is in place including signage and two-way radios
  • Implement appropriate safe work practices and comply with safe work methods
  • Interpret manufacturer’s instructions and specifications for fall protection and safety equipment

On successful completion of this course, students will be confident in their abilities to undertake work at heights in a safe and compliant manner across many industries in Australia.
